The tactics of the OCN can vary widely from commander to commander. This is caused by the emphasis placed on personal initative of commanders. This is due to the length of time it takes communication to occur between a fleet and OCNHQ. The lessons taught in the major naval academies will also vary. Despite this there are several things which are taught to commanders in all naval academies. One tactic which is only starting to be taught is the use of Tora Mk. IIs and Mk.Is as standoff and barrage weapons, the firing ship or ships will take position one hex away from the target system and fire these munitions into the target system and wait for a day or two before jumping in. This allows the munitions to wreak havoc on the defending ships before the main fleet arrives.

The OCA operates on two distinctly different docterines. The doctrine which is used will vary from situation to situation. One of these doctrines in that of methodocial conquest. This doctrine focuses on the use of high concentrations of Infantry supported by a disproportinate ammount of artillery with mechanized and armored units used in a supplementary role. The second Doctrine is mobile conquest. this doctrine uses high numbers of mechanized and armored units in order to swiftly defeat the enemy military presence.

The OCMC operates as a scalple in teh military. They focus on preforming surgical strikes with Drop Troops and Force Recon in order to achieve limited objectives, such as eliminating orbital defenses or capturing the enemy commander. They are never the only force to be used during the conquest of a planet. They also preform highly sensitive missions for the Outer Rim Confederation which are classified as state secrets.

The OCPSDF focuses on holding their home planet until relieved. They utilize ground based railgun batteries(light, medium, and heavy), Tora Mk. I launch sites (mobile and stationary), orbitial defense platforms, and local ships as the first line of defense against enemy planetary landings. Their ground troops are taught to use intricate systems of static defense accompanied by limited offensive actions in order to hold as long as possible. If they do begin to face the prospect of large scale occupation they will redirect their efforts toward a planet wide partisan campaign.

The OCDCA does not usually need to worry about major engagements with professional troops, but instead find themselves engaging a deadlier foe in many ways. They must defend colonists from attacks of unaligned alien species as well as pirates who roam the fringes of the Outer Rim. They rely on a solid backbone of experienced and professional infantry backed up by less experienced troops. They are oriented more towards efficient defensive engagements as well as withstanding long sieges of colonial outposts.
