Population breakdown
The Leonarian Republic is predominantly human, other races generally deemed unfit for the rigours and discipline of military service. However, as a combination of the strains placed on the military in recent times and a recognition of the usefulness of non-human races, some irregular units of non-humans have been organised on an ad hoc basis to provide support for regular troops. In addition, the non-human population in Leonaria, though small, is gradually increasing, as the increased demands of conscription have led to a shortage of human workers in non-reserved occupations.
Land Tactics
Under the previous government, archaic human wave tactics were in favour, with infantry generally advancing in large numbers with little or no armoured support, a tactic that is generally successful due to the élan of the soldiers, although large casualties are always incurred.
With the Army General Staff now in charge, attempts are underway to reform that army, and a greater emphasis is being placed on vehicle support for the infantry, with more flexible mounted tactics now in favour. However, this has its own disadvantages, as troops complain of their equipment and long rifles making it difficult to move in and out of their carriers, so reforms to the infantry equipment will need to be made in the near future.
Space Tactics
while the previous government neglected the army, the same cannot be said for the navy. Leonaria maintains a large, up-to-date navy. It favours fairly conventional tactics, with the larger ships lining up to deliver a broadside and the smaller ships manouevering about attempting to exploit weaknesses in the enemy's larger ships and combatting their smaller ones.
